After having been placed in unmaintained reserve on 15 April 1983 the M 801 DOKKUM was converted and adapted for testing fuels with pendantnumber Y 8001 DOKKUM.
On 01 November 1986 she was renamed Y 8001 VAN SPEIJK to keep the tradition of a VAN SPEIJK unit in the Royal Netherlands Navy service. On 07 September 1995 with the commissioning of the F 828 VAN SPEIJK she was renamed Y 8001 DOKKUM. Decommissioned and stricken on 10 February 1997 she was sold for scrap on 05 September 1997 to Firma Achterhuis & Zoon, HATTEM.
