The civilian fleet tanker LA SAÔNE was laid down at Ateliers et Chantiers de FRANCE, Dunkerque ( number 174 ) on 20 May 1939. On 04 June 1940 the shipyard was seized by the Germaan forces while she was 24 % completed. The Kriegsmarine renamed her STORMARN
and the building was continued. On 09 May 1945 Dunkerque was liberated and the decision to completed the tanker was taken on 02 September 1946 for the merchant navy. She was commissioned on 28 July 1948 till October 1953 taken over by the French Navy but put together with her sistership LA SEINE in reserve at Landevennec, FRANCE. In 1958 she was definitely acquired by the French Navy with pendantnumber A 628 LA SAÔNE.
In 1961 she was converted to a fleet Replenishment tanker at Cherbourg and commissioned on 22 June 1963. She was decommissioned on 07 January 1980 and struck from the Navy ( lost name and pendantnumber ) and became Q 622 on 14 January 1982. From July 1982 till 14 May 2009 she was towed to Port Avis, L île de Levant to be used as a breakwater. Returned at Brégaillon till June 2013 to be scrapped on the floating dock RI 38.
