After been decommissioned at her homeport Naval Station Norfolk, Virginia she was towed on the 9 January 2015 at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, Maine and placed in reserve status.
On 18 November 2015 she was stricken from the Naval Register. On 19 April the ex USS NORFOLK departed under tow by USNS APACHE T-ATF 172 to the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in Bremerton,Washington for the NPSSRP and arrived in June 2016 for scrapping.
