Originally built for IRAQ but the sale was first delayed by payments problems and then cancelled in 1990 by the United Nations military sales embargoes.
On 20 January 1990 it was decided to transfer the 4 ships built for IRAQ to the Italian Navy.
Decommissioned on 13 December 2013 and laid up at La Spezia.
