The USS SPRINGFIELD CL 66 was decommissioned 30 January 1950 and put in reserve at San Francisco Group of the Pacific Reserve Fleet untill 1957. On 15 May 1957 she was back at her builder Bethlehem Shipbuilding Fore River Shipyard,Quincy Massachusetts for a three conversion to a Providence- Class guided - missile light cruiser and redesignated CLG 7.
Recommissioned on 02 July 1960 as CLG 7 SPRINGFIELD.
Decommissioned on 15 May 1974 she was laid up at the Naval Inactive Facility, Philadelphia PA
and sold for scrap on 11 March 1980.
