The USS COONTZ was commissioned as a guided missile frigate  ( DLG 9 ) and was reclassified
as a guided missile destroyer  ( DDG 40 ) on 30 06 1975.
Decommissioned on 02 10 1989 and stricken from the Naval Register on 07 01 1990.
She was sold for scrap on 05 05 1993 but later reposessed by the US NAVY 01 10 1996.

Resold for scrap on 25 01 2002 and scrap completed on 26 03 2003.
